Host Mark L. Walberg hit the couples with a huge surprise for their first night on the island.
Temptation Island Season 5 is finally here, and, just one episode in, this season is already breaking all the rules. Viewers knew this season would come with plenty of surprises — but what about new temptations?
In the opening episode of Temptation Island Season 5, host Mark L. Walberg took the couples and singles by surprise when he announced that the opening night mixer would be a joint affair: the couples would party together alongside the singles who would soon be tempting their partners.
And tempt they did!

What's new in Temptation Island Season 5?
"Couples, this will be where you'll get a chance to mingle with the singles you'll be living with," Walberg explained. "And you'll also be able to mingle with the singles your partners will be living with."
Vanessa saw the mixer as a way to suss out the competition for her boyfriend, Roberto: "I need to see who's interested in my man, who I need to worry about, and I get to gauge their personalities."
Right away, the booze was flowing, and we got a chance to get to know some of this season's singles.
Tahjjic claims to have "stolen some girls in the past, some intentionally, some unintentionally." Now? "I plan on stealing some girls on this island," he said. "Couples, y'all watch out, man. I'm gonna win these ladies over with the eyes, 'cause I got my eyes on the prize."
And the couples are already feeling the pressure over watching their partners interact with potential connections. "Being with Great makes me nervous because he's very handsome. Let's not lie," Paris said of her boyfriend. "And one of the issues is me having trust issues with Great based on the stuff that happened in the past. That makes me feel a little insecure, you know?"
Does Paris have competition in single Tamie, who tells the guys (including Great) that she's looking for something real?
One of the singles, Marjorie, was especially aware of how awkward the room was with the couples looking over each other. "They're definitely all worried, but rude," she said of the women keeping a close eye on their partners. "Don't get me wrong — I can be a bitch, too. But not for no reason."
Find out what catches our Season 5 couples by surprise for the remainder of the season as new episodes of Temptation Island premiere every Wednesday on USA Network at 9 PM ET/PT.
