Leah and Miguel Take Their Romance To the Next Level with a Reunion Surprise
After a little help from Serena Page and a "big ol speech," the Love Island USA couple made it official.
It’s been a minute since the ladies and gents left the villa on Love Island USA, but the sparks were still flying on the Season 6 Reunion special hosted by Ariana Madix on August 19. As the cast looked back on the highs and lows of their time together, all eyes were on one couple: Miguel Harichi and Leah Kateb to see if they joined their fellow Islanders in making things official.
The two came in second place in the finale and spent quite a bit of time apart since then, with Miguel in London and Leah in California. With Leah's fiery personality and Miguel's easy-going vibe, the couple defines “opposites attract,” and many fans were wondering if they were the real deal. The answer is a resounding yes!
The two broke the news at the Reunion that they’re officially in a relationship — thanks to a little assist from Season 6 winner, Serena Page.
How did Miguel Harichi pop the relationship question?
While they looked adorably at each other, Miguel explained that being in two different countries was no obstacle to love.
“When I went back to London, we’ve been talking every day,” he revealed at the Reunion, adding that they FaceTimed for hours on end. When Leah's 25th birthday was coming up on August 11, Miguel jumped on the opportunity to take the relationship to the next level and flew across the pond for a surprise dinner that he organized while they were both visiting New York for the Reunion.
“He was trying to bamboozle me… and so was she!” Leah said, pointing to Serena, who helped with the details, against her better judgment since she knows her friend’s stance on surprises.
“I kept telling her, Serena, I hate surprises,” recalled Leah at the Reunion.
“She’s about to hate me!" Serena confessed "I said, ‘Miguel, if she starts swinging, you take it.’”
For the record, Miguel emerged unscathed and, in fact, had a sly smile on his face when he said, “Yeah, we’ve been really good, really good.”
At the surprise birthday dinner, he presented Leah with “a little card, and that card had a big ol’ speech,” in which he asked her to be his girlfriend.
How did the Love Island gang react?
The sweet news brought applause from their fellow Love Island contestants until the host, Madix, asked the million-dollar question. “Has anyone said, ‘I love you yet?’” Cue the awkward silence.
Though several couples are still happily together, including Season 6 winners Serena and Kordell Beckman (another long-distance romance), they are all stopping short of saying those three impactful words. As Miguel explained, “There’s no rush for anything.”
