Asuka Teasing Dark Character Reemergence After Monday Night RAW Loss

Asuka is one of the most popular, credible, and accomplished Superstars on the WWE roster today, but in recent months, it has felt like Asuka’s momentum has begun to fizzle out. At one point, she was undefeated in WWE, putting Goldberg’s iconic win streak to shame with her own record of 914 days before losing to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34. Now, five years later, it seems as if Asuka is still recovering from that loss. Although she has shown flashes of her old self, the Empress of Tomorrow has lost more matches this year than any in her career’s history.
A few weeks ago, Asuka, who is prolific on social media, began posting cryptic pictures and messages that teased a return back to a character she used in Japan, a killer clown called Princess Kana.
Princess Kana experienced major success in Japan and became an international star with her hard-hitting and technical in-ring style and creepy face paint. As of now, there are dozens of pictures and cryptic messages teasing the return to her roots.
Whether Asuka is tapping into this old persona to try and jumpstart some momentum into this stage in her career is yet to be seen, but after her loss to Rhea Ripley last Monday, Asuka took to Twitter to say that she will be “On a trip for awhile,” followed by a second similar tweet that included emojis of different bugs and insects.
The 41-year-old world-traveled veteran also ditched her signature face paint during her recent match with The Nightmare, Rhea Ripley. Something drastic is definitely going on inside Asuka's head, and whether she is bringing her killer clown gimmick back to spice things up and hopefully get herself back in the win column should be known soon.
Another clue that points to a big change in Asuka’s character? A tweet she posted just before RAW: A WWE YouTube playlist of Asuka’s best wins as the Empress of Tomorrow, which she retweeted with the caption, “Goodbye.”
