WWE Superstar Maryse Mizanin Announces She is Tumor-Free After Surgery
The former Women's Champion, Maryse Mizanin shared some celebratory news today!
Whether you love her, hate her, or love to hate her, there’s no denying that Maryse is one of the most memorable WWE Superstars of all time.
Whether Maryse Mizanin was competing in the ring (she’s a former champion, after all) or serving as the brains and beauty behind all of (her real-life husband) The Miz’s schemes, she’s given the WWE Universe plenty of iconic – and often hilarious – moments.

However, Maryse has been conspicuous by her absence on WWE television throughout most of 2023 and 2024 – as it turns out, she’s been dealing with serious health issues.
How Long Has Maryse Been Battling Health Complications?
As fans may or may not know, Maryse has been battling major health complications since the beginning of 2024. In February, the former women’s champion took to social media to announce she underwent an operation to remove implants – essentially, pre-cancerous tumors – from her uterus, ovaries, and all connective tissues. At the time, she revealed that if the implants had become cancerous, she would only have less than a year to live.
The surgery was the logical next step for Maryse, who admitted – similarly to Raquel Rodriguez – she had been privately battling issues that made her eventually schedule a trip to her doctor.
“I had been suffering from severe abdominal distension and swelling to the point where I would look six months pregnant. Lots of [gastrointestinal] issues, including sibo, multiple rounds of antibiotics, extreme fatigue, and just wasn’t feeling like myself,” she captioned.
But that was only step one on her road to good health. Maryse revealed that she would undergo a total hysterectomy in March to ensure any cancer doesn’t have the chance to take hold – and we’re happy to announce that the hysterectomy was a success!
Maryse Announces She is Now Tumor-Free
In a triumphant post to her Instagram account, Maryse spread the good news: she was officially tumor-free!
Her official diagnosis is one that most members of the WWE Universe have most likely never heard before: Primary Peritoneal Serous Borderline Tumors, which is a condition that affects only seven in a million women in the United States each year.
We can’t go over the happiness, relief, and optimism that is Maryse’s Instagram caption:
"As you know, 2 weeks ago I went in to surgery to have my ovaries/uterus/tubes/cervix/omentum removed. I also had staging (removal) of the lymph nodes in my abdomen to see if the disease had spread. Pathology confirmed that it had not which is amazing news! More amazing news is that I am tumor free! The diagnosis did confirm that I had Primary Peritoneal Serous Borderline Tumors with involvement of ovaries/uterus/tubes!
Just to give you an idea of the rarity – 7 cases per million of women in the US per year! The fact that we not only found this but found this at this manageable stage is unbelievable and literally saved my life as this would have most likely been lethal. Next, I will continue to rest following my surgery and then will follow up with specialists at MD Anderson in Houston.
I can never say thank you enough to my doctor @drthaisaliabadi and her team! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I’m overwhelmed by the amount of support I’m getting from family, friends and fans all over the world! To all my women, please keep being your own advocate and trust yourself always!"
Maryse’s WWE return is still up in the air – but for now, we think she’s earned some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
Will Maryse’s Husband The Miz Compete at WrestleMania 40?
Fittingly, The Miz does have an upcoming match at WrestleMania – he and R-Truth are teaming up to participate in the still-to-be-finalized multi-team ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships! The Miz has all the motivation he needs to add another championship to his trophy case; he won’t just be doing it for himself but for Maryse and his two children.
All signs point to “Awesome Truth” being one of the favorites to win the ladder match at WrestleMania – both Superstars clearly have confidence in spades, even during the latter stages of their respective careers.
At the very least, the WWE Universe will know who to cheer for at WrestleMania!
You can tune in to Peacock to watch WrestleMania on April 6 and 7. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
