These are the Current WWE Smackdown Champions in 2024
These are the best of the best on Friday nights and here's who you should know before SmackDown moves to USA Network.
SmackDown’s return to USA Network is quickly approaching. So, it’s time to get better acquainted with some of the biggest stars of Friday nights — the current and reigning champions!
There are 11 recognized main roster championships in WWE, and four of those titles are SmackDown-exclusive, which means if you want to catch the Superstars who hold these championships, you should get into the habit of tuning in to USA Network on Friday nights starting on September 13.
The Undisputed WWE Championship, the WWE Women’s Championship, the United States Championship, and the WWE Tag Team Championships are SmackDown’s own titles. Although technically nothing stops the titleholders from defending their championships on Monday Night Raw or during Premium Live Events, they are primarily featured — and defended — on Friday nights.
Who is the Undisputed WWE Champion?
There’s no disputing the fact that Cody Rhodes is the de facto face of WWE in 2024 — he’s held the Undisputed WWE Championship since WrestleMania XL when he finally “finished the story” and defeated Roman Reigns.
Ever since his shocking return to WWE after a near-decade absence, “The American Nightmare” has made a point of becoming the biggest Superstar the WWE Universe has ever seen. While someone like John Cena was polarizing to the fans throughout his prime, Rhodes has had the unequivocal support of the WWE Universe for the entirety of his journey toward becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion.
With victories over competitors like AJ Styles, Solo Sikoa, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Logan Paul, Rhodes established himself as worthy of holding the most prestigious championship in professional wrestling.
Who is the WWE Women’s Champion?
Ever since she steamrolled Bayley at SummerSlam to capture the WWE Women’s Championship, Nia Jax has been on a mission: to establish herself as the most dominant women’s champion in WWE history.
There’s no doubt about it: Jax is the top female competitor on SmackDown.
Jax has shown no signs of slowing down, and as the days and weeks keep passing, it looks more and more unlikely that she will relinquish the title anytime soon. When SmackDown moves to USA Network, it will be interesting to see which WWE Superstar emerges from the women’s locker room to put Jax in her place once and for all!
Who is the United States Champion?
In the eyes of many in the WWE Universe, LA Knight isn’t just a Superstar — he’s the Megastar.
For the better part of the last two years, LA Knight is the only wrestler on the main roster that’s come close to eclipsing Cody Rhodes’ popularity — and at SummerSlam, the 41-year-old finally parlayed all the support into a championship run when he defeated Logan Paul for the United States Championship in a thrilling match.
Many fans consider titles like the United States Championship to be a stepping stone to the more prestigious titles in WWE — for all we know, this current reign by Knight could be just a precursor to him eventually holding the Undisputed WWE Championship. Unlike Cody Rhodes, LA Knight will find himself defending — or at least attempting to — his title on a far more constant basis. Fans shouldn’t be surprised to see the Megastar put the U.S. Championship up for grabs in matches on a near-weekly basis on Friday nights!
Who are the WWE Tag Team Champions?
The WWE Tag Team Championships are held by two men, both of whom are members of The Bloodline: Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga.
The two fearsome athletes defeated fan favorites Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa on an unforgettable episode of SmackDown in August, which just goes to show that sometimes the greatest and most exciting matches don’t occur during Premium Live Events or Monday Night Raw—they happen on SmackDown!
As is par for the course with The Bloodline, any team that attempts to take those titles away from Fatu and Tonga will face the challenge of a lifetime.
The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships — currently held by Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre — can also be seen on SmackDown, although these titles are allowed to “float” through Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. (This obviously makes defending them an exhausting proposition for the WWE Superstars who earned them!)
The duo of Dawn and Fyre — collectively known as The Unholy Union — have proven they are forces to be reckoned with, laying waste to the women’s tag team division ever since they debuted on the blue brand in October 2023:
Ever since they defeated the all-star tag team of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill for the Women’s Tag Team Championships, they’ve been on the run of a lifetime — it’ll be interesting to see how the pair can hold on to the titles!
