International Lucha Superstar Dragon Lee Signs With WWE: 'I Can Become The New Rey Mysterio'

The world-class talent seemingly just keeps on coming as WWE’s ongoing signings of some of professional wrestling’s hottest free agents continues. Today, the company announced that international Lucha wrestler Dragon Lee has signed with NXT and is the newest performer to join the recent influx of talent. 

Lee is a second-generation Superstar and lives the Lucha-libre life. The 27-year-old’s real name is legitimately unknown, and he has traveled worldwide, winning titles everywhere he goes including Japan, the United States, and Mexico. Last night, Lee and his brother, Dralistico, won the AAA World Tag Team Championships from former WWE Superstars Cash Wheeler and Dax Hardwood in an emotional match before Lee revealed to the fans that he is leaving for WWE and promptly surrendered his newly won title. 

The official statement on WWE.com reads, “The high-flying and uber-athletic Dragon Lee has earned industry-wide respect with his seamless blend of acrobatics with mat technician skills. The Mexican-born Superstar has ruled every ring that he’s ever graced with his unique and jaw-dropping offense and is now officially taking his talents to NXT.”

The WWE Universe seems extremely excited about Lee’s debut, as fans are already running through the dream matchups on social media that await them. Lee’s signing could indicate that NXT is executing Shawn Michaels’ plan to recruit more international Superstars. WWE’s Head of Talent Strategy and Operations James Kimball says, “Dragon Lee is a tremendous talent that will immediately add value to the NXT roster. This signing is reflective of WWE's renewed emphasis on globalizing our talent pipeline with Latin America positioned as a focal market.” 

As for Lee, WWE has always been the dream. He told ESPN, “I think I can become the new Rey Mysterio in WWE. I just need the opportunity.” 

According to the luchador, Finn Balor was the one who really got the ball rolling for him when it came to signing with WWE. As for his plan of attack when he arrives in the U.S., Lee says he wants to improve his mic skills.
