The summer may be winding down, but that doesn't mean WWE will be cooling off anytime soon. Payback 2023 is on the horizon! Here's everything you need to know about the September 2 Premium Live Event.
How to Watch WWE Payback 2023
If you live in the United States, there's only one way to catch Payback on September 2: On Peacock! Peacock has been the home of the biggest WWE live events since March 2021, and the tradition continues with Payback 2023. The event is available on WWE Network, traditional pay-per-view carriers, and other outlets for WWE fans living outside the United States.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. ET, preceded by a kickoff show beginning one hour prior.
What Is WWE Payback?
Originally created to fill a hole in the WWE calendar, Payback was an annual event from 2013 to 2017. Payback returned in 2020 after a short hiatus, only to curiously disappear for another three years – until now. Rechristened as a post-SummerSlam Premium Live Event, Payback focuses on the feuds and rivalries that weren't settled at The Biggest Party of the Summer, ensuring the WWE Universe enjoys one more larger-than-life event before the fall season officially kicks off!
Where Will WWE Payback 2023 Take Place?
This year, Payback will emanate live from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It marks the first time WWE has presented a Premium Live Event there since 2018's Extreme Rules. Pittsburgh also hosted one of the most infamous events in WWE history, Royal Rumble 2014, an event arguably marred by one of the most unruly and hostile crowds of all time! Pittsburgh fans have traditionally been loud and raucous – just like your favorite WWE Superstars prefer the crowds to be.

What Can the WWE Universe Expect At Payback?
If the matches featured in past Payback events are any indication, the WWE Universe is in for a treat on September 2. From a legendary six-man match between The Shield and Evolution in 2014 (yes, this is a match that happened!) to Roman Reigns and AJ Styles battling in an unforgettable World Heavyweight Championship bout in 2016, Payback has historically been home to countless classic matches:

What Matches Will Take Place at WWE Payback 2023?
As of press time, three huge bouts are scheduled for the September 2 event – with plenty more to be announced.
In a clash for the World Heavyweight Championship, Shinsuke Nakamura will look to capitalize on the previously undisclosed injuries Seth Rollins has been fighting through for the past months. Seth has been nothing less than a fighting champion in his role as Monday Night RAW's workhorse, but his reign may come to an end sooner than later as the King of Strong Style has already gotten the upper hand on the champion physically and mentally in recent weeks!
Over on the women's side, it looks like the WWE Universe will finally get what they've been aching for: A final, conclusive showdown between Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus! WWE officials must have agreed with the WWE Universe because the two female legends will compete inside a steel cage at Payback. For anyone disappointed that Becky and Trish were left off of this year's SummerSlam, it sounds like they will be rewarded for their patience. Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus inside a cage isn't just a main event in any city in the world, but it's an ultimate dream match.
In addition, The Judgment Day's Rhea Ripley will defend her Women's World Championship against Raquel Rodriguez, who is looking for revenge after Rhea put her tag team partner Liv Morgan on the injured list – and nearly did the same to Raquel herself! Rhea has been running roughshod over the women's division ever since WrestleMania, quickly dispatching challengers on a monthly basis. But with an upset win at Payback, a surging Raquel Rodriguez could easily stake her claim as the brightest young Superstar in all of WWE.
