Premier League Bringing 6-Team Summer Series To The U.S.
Get ready, sports fans. England’s top flight of footy is coming to America.
In the league’s first major event series of its kind on Uncle Sam’s turf, the Premier League Summer Series will be coming to the USA this July. Designed as a preseason tune-up, the Premier League's brand-expanding initiative will feature six teams squaring off against one another in nine games across five major cities along the East Coast from July 22 through July 30.
The tournament follows a similar rollout to the Premier League Asia Trophy, which was held every two years between Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and China. As the summer soccer party heats up, fans will be able to catch all the action across the entire media landscape of NBC Sports, including the streaming platform Peacock.
Which teams from the English Premier League will play in the Summer Series?
The Premier League Summer Series will feature some of the best action the league has to offer from some of its brightest stars. The six teams that will play in the pre-season tournament are Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Fulham and Newcastle United.
Which EPL players can fans expect to see during the Premier League Sumer Series?
Mason Mount and USMNT talisman Christian Pulisic headline Chelsea’s squad as two of the biggest draws alongside Enzo Fernandez, Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling. That said, Chelsea’s roster could look much different come summer, so it’s hard to say who from the Blues will make the trek across the pond. American footy fans tuning into the series will also be pumped to catch Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream, who each played significant roles for the USMNT during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
What has the EPL said about the Premier League Summer Series?
English Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters conveyed the league’s excitement about bringing an event series to the United States.
“We are delighted to be bringing six clubs to the USA in July for the first-ever Premier League Summer Series,” Masters said in a statement. “Our clubs have incredible supporters in the U.S. who passionately follow their teams throughout the season. We have seen this dedication first-hand from the tens of thousands who have attended our Mornings Live fan events and are excited to be building on this by bringing live Premier League action to five cities this summer.”
“We are currently enjoying one of the most competitive Premier League seasons of all time at both ends of the table, and I am sure we will see some thrilling matches during the tournament.”
An additional statement from the Premier League reads, “The tournament will comprise high-profile matches and pre-season training camps, and will be supported by a range of events for fans and local community groups.”
