Of all the rivalries in the Premier League, the North London derby – as the matches between Arsenal and Tottenham are dubbed – is among the most passionate.

The rivalry between the two teams dates back more than 100 years, and there is certainly no love lost between the two squads. Arsenal won a tense 3-2 match during the most recent matchup at the end of last season, buoyed by a Tottenham own goal.

The win added to Arsenal’s all-time edge in the series, and Tottenham will have plenty of motivation for revenge going into Sunday’s tilt at home. The Spurs have lost five of the last seven contests against Arsenal, including the last two at home.

Sunday’s match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 196th meeting between the two teams, will surely add to the legacy in the never-ending battle for bragging rights in North London. Though it’s only the fourth game in the young Premier League season, both teams enter with hopes of finishing in the top four of the table to ensure a spot in the Champions League.

But Arsenal, currently in fourth place in the standings, is angling for nothing less than the team’s first league title since 2004. The squad finished two points behind champions Manchester City last season in a close race that went down to the final day.

Tottenham, meanwhile, currently sits in 10th in the table. Despite the uneven start, there are high hopes for the team’s second season under Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

Arsenal News: Where Do the Gunners Stand with Their Walking Wounded?

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, fresh off signing a three-year extension with the club, will have his work cut out for him as the Gunners are limping into the North London Derby with a number of high-profile injuries and one notable suspension.

Captain Martin Odegaard injured his ankle during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Austria during the recent international break and will almost certainly miss multiple games for Arsenal. The 25-year-old star’s loss adds to the holes in the midfield suffered with the previous loss of blockbuster summer acquisition, Mikel Merino. Key cog Declan Rice will also be out Sunday, serving a one game suspension after receiving two yellow cards during his team’s previous match against Brighton.

Arsenal still has plenty of firepower – including England international veteran Raheem Sterling who recently arrived on a one-year-loan from Chelsea to reunite with Arteta, an assistant during the star's stint at Manchester City.

Tottenham News: How Far Can Postecoglou Take the Spurs?

Postecoglou, imported last season after a successful two-year run helming Celtic, injected new energy and an exciting attack-first strategy that was in dire need for a squad and fanbase that had just endured too much drama under the Antonio Conte regime.

The Spurs have some positive injury news heading into the North London Derby as striker Dominic Solanke is expected to return after missing the last two games with a twisted ankle. Solanke, the team's biggest addition of the summer, came over from AFC Bournemouth with expectations that he'll fill the scoring void left by the sale of club legend Harry Kane last year.

Arsenal: English striker Bukayo Saka is off to a strong start to the season for Arsenal, scoring a goal and adding three assists to pace the squad. The hope is that defender Riccardo  Calafiori, another high-profile summer addition, will be able to play despite a calf injury suffered in an international match for Italy last week. If healthy, he fortifies what was already arguably the best defense in the Premier League.

Tottenham: Solanke’s addition could spark a team in need of more goals. The most dynamic player on the Spurs, however, remains South Korean forward Son Heung-min, who already has two goals in Tottenham’s first three games this season. Last year’s big addition, talented midfielder James Maddison, is looking for a fresh start following a disappointing first season derailed by injury.
