Two of the Premier League's perennial heavyweights battle Sunday with desperation to avoid further falling back in title race.

Matches between traditional powerhouses and London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are always essential viewing for fans of Premier League play. Their tilt this Sunday, however, has even more tension than usual for this point in the season, with both clubs are in desperate need of a momentum boost. The loser risks falling further back in the title race and possibly on the wrong side of European qualification.

Arsenal, which challenged Manchester City for the crown until the final whistle the previous two seasons, enters the match mired in fifth place in the table, struggling of late to overcome a run of major injuries. Manager Mikel Arteta’s side is coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to Inter Milan in Wednesday’s Champion’s League play, their first lost in the group stage of the premiere European tournament.

The club is in a rut having lost three of their last six games in all competitions – as many losses as the team had in the previous 32 games before that.

Chelsea, sitting in fourth place, may have to face their rival without Cole Palmer, arguably the best player in the league, who is nursing an injury sustained during last Sunday’s 1-1 tie against Manchester United. First-year Blues manager Enzo Maresca also desperately needs more consistency from No. 1 goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to be a true contender.

Both are quality teams that desperately need the three points that come with a win, making Sunday’s match a potential classic.

Where and When to Watch Chelsea vs. Arsenal

The match kicks off Sunday, November 10 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time at Stamford Bridge in London, and will be broadcast on USA Network and Telemundo.

Arsenal News: Sporting director Edu leaves for archrival club

This week, Arsenal lost arguably the club’s most important figure off the pitch. Edu announced his abrupt departure as sporting director to take on a position working with the group of teams owned by shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis, including Nottingham Forest. The Brazilian was a legend with Arsenal fans – first as a key midfielder on the unbeaten 2003-04 team, and later as the technical director who played a major role in the hiring of Arteta. Edu, 46, is as responsible as anyone for Arsenal’s run of success in recent seasons and was influential in the transfers of key players including Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.

Chelsea News: Cole Palmer’s Availability for Sunday a Huge Concern

Cole Palmer points his finger during a Premier League match

Blues fans will be holding their collective breath to see if superstar midfielder Cole Palmer will be fit enough to play on Sunday after hurting his knee during a rough challenge from United defender Lisandro Martinez, who drew a yellow card for the act, last weekend. The 22-year-old English national, the engine of Chelsea’s offense, was slated to sit out Thursday’s UEFA Conference League game against Armenian team FC Noah as a precaution. Not having him in the lineup would leave a huge void in a crucial match.

Who Are the Chelsea and Manchester United Stars to Watch

Chelsea: Maresca really needs to get winger Noni Madeuke to find another gear. The English forward has only scored one goal in eight games since notching a hat trick on August 25th against Wolverhampton. The 22-year-old is one of several future stars that are considered the pillars of the club’s youth movement.

Another one of the club’s young guns, Moises Caicedo has made his first goal of the season – a highlight-reel worthy equalizer against Manchester United last Sunday – one to remember. Though he's not a goal scorer, Chelsea will certainly be able to use opportunistic strikes like that this weekend, particularly if Palmer is still injured.

Martin Odegaard of Arsenal is illuminated by stadium lights.

Arsenal: After missing nearly two months with a foot injury suffered during international play for Norway, midfielder Martin Odegaard is nearing a return. The 25-year-old is not only team captain, he’s the best passer. Odegaard scored eight goals and 10 assists last season, and 15 goals the season before that. Arsenal is a far different offense with him in the lineup.

At 23, defender William Saliba is already one of the top talents at his position in the EPL. The Frenchman is the best player on a defense that was, before a spate of injuries, the stingiest in the league.
