What Is Defenestration? Everything To Know About Chucky's Favorite Way To Kill
Chucky claimed yet another victim by defenestrating them. Here's what that actually means.
In a shocking twist at the end of the latest episode of “Chucky,” a beloved character met their end by defenestration, which the killer doll claimed was always his “favorite M.O.,” but what does it actually mean?
[Spoiler Alert]
Nadine (Bella Higginbotham) went to comfort what she thought was a reformed Chucky at the top of a bell tower. When the poorly named Good Chucky beckoned her for a hug near the window, he quickly turned and pushed her out. Just like that, Nadine met a bloody end by breaking her back on a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Her death, while tragic, is a classic example of defenestration, which is literally defined as throwing a person or object out of a window. However, it’s been adopted colloquially around the world to refer to the sudden ousting of political figures. The political affiliations come from the most famous case of defenestration, which took place in 1618. Two Catholic officials were thrown from a top-floor window of a castle by an angry mob of Protestant activists, which sparked the bloody Thirty Years’ War and is known today as the Defenestration of Prague. Fortunately, Chucky isn’t orchestrating a lot of political coups at the moment, so typically he uses the non-political definition of the word.
When he says that defenestration has always been his favorite method to kill people, there's some evidence to back that up. Nadine marks the third person in the franchise who he’s killed in that manner. While he typically is associated with murder by knife, Chucky began his life as a killer doll by murdering the babysitter of Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Maggie Peterson (Dinah Manoff), who he hit with a hammer and somehow sent her out of the apartment window in the first “Child’s Play” movie.
Chucky returned to defenestration again in Season 1 of his show to get rid of Bree Wheeler (Lexa Doig). After a productive session with her therapist, Bree got lost staring out the tall building’s window and didn't notice Chucky pushing a large mail cart toward her. The cart hit her and sent her right through the glass, falling to her death in front of her son, Junior (Teo Briones), who was waiting in the car just below.
So, while Chucky has stabbed, shot, strangled, and otherwise mangled more victims than he has defenestrated them, by far some of his most shocking kills to date have been the result of someone getting tossed out of a window.
Luckily for fans of Chucky's particular brand of murder and mayhem, there's still a lot more havoc he can wreak in the remaining episodes of Season 2.
Turn in to see more of Chucky’s kills every Wednesday at 9/8c on USA Network and SYFY. You can catch up on past episodes of “Chucky” on Peacock now.
