Mr. Monk's Last Case Earns Peacock a SAG Award Nomination
Tony Shalhoub picked up an awards not for his role in the Monk TV series revival movie Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie.
Mr. Monk’s Last Case is also Peacock a highly coveted SAG Awards nomination! On Tuesday, Tony Shalhoub was nominated for his performance as the title character in the movie, which came out last December. This nomination, for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series, is the streaming service’s first nomination for the Screen Actors’ Guild’s annual awards.
Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, which premiered on Peacock to positive reviews on Dec. 8, continues the story of the loveable, obsessive-compulsive detective from the hit USA Network series. The film, which is now streaming, follows a retired, down-on-his-luck Monk as he’s spurred back into action when his stepdaughter Molly’s fiance dies just before their wedding — and he suspects foul play.

The SAG Awards, a chance for actors to honor what they deem are the best examples of their craft each year, revealed 2023’s crop of nominations on Jan. 10. The other nominees in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series alongside Shalhoub are Matt Bomer, Jon Hamm, David Oyelowo, and Steven Yeun.
While this is Peacock’s first SAG nomination, it is not Shalhoub’s. He was nominated for his role on Monk seven times between 2002 and 2009, winning Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series twice. He’s also won four SAG awards for his role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Will Mr. Monk net Peacock a SAG win? Only time will tell. In the meantime, check out the SAG-nominated Mr. Monk’s Last Case on Peacock.
