Tony Shalhoub Reveals His Favorite Scenes From Mr. Monk's Last Case
A touching reunion was the Monk star's favorite in the new Peacock original Monk movie.
Now that the Monk reunion movie is out for all to see, Tony Shalhoub revealed which scenes of the new film Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie were his favorite to film.
The new follow up to the popular USA Network original series, now streaming on Peacock, tells a new story involving everyone’s favorite neurotic detective with OCD. Picking up several years after the end of show, which ran for eight seasons, Mr Monk’s Last Case follows Shaloub’s title character as he attempts to solve a case involving his stepdaughter, Molly (Caitlin McGee), and pull himself out of a very negative spiral following the COVID-19 pandemic, which did a number on Mr. Monk’s psyche.

Speaking to reporters on the red carpet premiere for the movie, Shalhoub revealed he had two favorite scenes. The first is the film’s opening, where he acts opposite his real-life wife, Brooke Adams. She plays a publisher who is taking back Monk’s book advance because he never finished writing his memoir. This is a problem because Monk was counting on that advance money to pay for Molly’s wedding.
The other scenes come later, when Monk is meeting with his therapist, Dr. Neven Bell (Hector Elizondo). Monk’s not doing well, and Bell worries, correctly, that Monk is considering self-harm. In a lovely gesture, Dr. Bell reveals that he retired two months ago, and that he’s only staying on to see Monk because he loves and cares about him — and Monk returns the sentiment.
“I also was really crazy about the two scenes with Hector Elizondo,” Shalhoub said. “Hector kind of came out of retirement to join us, we had to kind of sweet talk him. We were able to shoot him out all in one day. He was just, he’s the greatest."
Melora Hardin, who plays Monk's dead wife Trudy, said the scenes with him and Hector were her favorite, too.
"I was in heaven,” Hardin explained.
Elizondo joined the cast of Monk at the start of Season 7 following the sudden death of actor Stanley Kamel, who played Monk’s old therapist Dr. Charles Kroger for the first six seasons.
Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie is now streaming on Peacock.
