SummerSlam 2022: What Matches To Look Forward To Most & How To Watch
On July 30, the WWE Universe hosts the biggest party of the summer. Here are the hottest matches to look forward to!
It’s that time of year again — when WWE’s biggest rivalries come to a head, culminating in classic matches and unforgettable moments.
SummerSlam 2022 — airing live on Peacock on Saturday starting at 7 p.m. ET and broadcast from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee — is just a few days away, and the WWE Universe is excited to watch what many regard as “the “WrestleMania of the summer!”
Here are the matches and storylines we’re most excited for:
Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch
If SummerSlam season means the WWE Universe gets to see Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch go one-on-one every year, we’re on board with that idea.
The intense rivalry between these two women has come full circle; these two Superstars met inside the ring at last year’s SummerSlam when Lynch defeated Belair in just 20 seconds to capture both WWE Women’s Championships.
Fast forward to this year’s WrestleMania, when Belair returned the favor by defeating Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship in a match that went down in history as one of the greatest women’s matches in WrestleMania history.
And now they’re scheduled to go at it once again for the Raw Women’s Championship in Nashville.
When it comes to the Raw Women’s Championship, it seems that both Belair and Lynch have been intrinsically linked to it. After all, while many Superstars have laid claim to the championship, the cream rises to the top — and when the dust settles, it always seems to be Belair and Lynch standing atop the Raw women’s division.
Both Superstars are inarguably two of the greatest Superstars in modern history, and if it means that the WWE Universe will forever be treated to amazing matches as these two perform at the highest level possible, we don’t think anybody would complain.
Will Bianca Belair successfully defend her championship, or will Becky Lynch once again reach the pinnacle of the Raw women’s division?
If the match goes 20 seconds or 20 minutes, one thing’s for sure: These women will put on a match to remember.
United States Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. Theory
What a difference a month makes.
At June’s Money in the Bank, Theory defended his United States Championship against Bobby Lashley — and lost the title when Lashley was able to apply the Hurt Lock in the latter stages of the match. Many in the WWE Universe saw this result as a bit of an upset. After all, Bobby Lashley had to go through hell to earn that title opportunity by competing in an exhausting Gauntlet Match on Raw. Theory came into Money in the Bank healthier and fresher than Lashley, but in the end, he succumbed to one of the most deadly finishing maneuvers in WWE history.
Of course, later that night, Theory became Mr. Money in the Bank courtesy of being a last-minute surprise entrant into the match, setting him up for a future WWE Undisputed Universal Championship opportunity.
That was one month ago.
Theory made it known that he would like his United States Championship back, and he’s getting his rematch against Bobby Lashley this Saturday.
Defeating Lashley and re-acquiring the United States Championship means that Theory would be carrying one of Raw’s most prestigious championships to go along with his extremely valuable Money in the Bank briefcase.
We’re just not so sure how easy it is to defeat somebody like Bobby Lashley for a championship on the biggest stage of the summer.
The Miz vs. Logan Paul
Talk about a grudge match! Just a few months ago, The Miz and Logan Paul teamed up to defeat The Mysterios at WrestleMania to secure Paul’s first WrestleMania Moment.
Of course, that victory was marred just a tiny bit when Miz delivered an epic Skull-Crushing Finale to Paul immediately afterward, sending the two Superstars down a path that can only conclude with them meeting in the ring one-on-one for the first time ever.
The war of words between the two of them has been nothing less than vicious — from Logan Paul’s post-WrestleMania message to Miz that is not suitable for us to publish here to Miz’s latest verbal altercation that happened during MizTV last week on Raw.
In fact, tonight’s episode of Raw will feature the debut of Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive TV,” which will surely be designed to accomplish one specific mission: to get under the skin of the Miz — and Miz’s newest ally Ciampa — ahead of the big match on Saturday.
Logan Paul has gone on the record that he believes he is ready for big things in the WWE. Miz, on the other hand, has dismissed Paul as a rookie who isn’t up to his level.
At SummerSlam, the war of words ends and the action heats up. We can’t wait to see how this match turns out!
Riddle vs. Seth Rollins
The WWE Universe was clamoring for it, so the WWE delivered and made it official: Riddle will go one-on-one with Seth “Freakin” Rollins on Saturday night in a match that will have huge ramifications for each Superstar. Each time these two men step into the ring together, magic happens – the WWE Universe should expect nothing less. In a battle for supremacy on the Raw brand, just what lengths will Riddle and Rollins go to to secure the victory?
Not only are Raw’s two biggest Superstars going head-to-head during the biggest party of the summer, but the winner is surely going to be in the conversation of who is next in line for a WWE Undisputed Universal Championship opportunity.
Who that champion will be after Saturday remains to be seen, of course.
Nevertheless, we’re excited for this match for the potential of witnessing an all-time classic. Both Superstars are capable of stealing the show with their athleticism and jaw-dropping in-ring ability, and we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds on Saturday.
Make sure to watch SummerSlam Saturday, July 30 on Peacock to catch all the action!
