Here’s Every Match WWE Announced So Far For WrestleMania 40
WrestleMania 40 is on track to be the most historic event in WWE history!
WrestleMania 40 is shaping up to be the biggest Premium Live Event in WWE history – and no, that's not hyperbole.
Thanks to some of the most intense drama ever seen on WWE television with returning WWE Superstars like The Rock, the main event scene is as crowded as it's ever been. On April 6 and 7 in Philadelphia, the mayhem will finally come to a head.

While WrestleMania's main event is seemingly set in stone, the rest of the card is beginning to take shape. Unless you've been living under a rock, you're well aware that Cody Rhodes will be challenging Roman Reigns for the second year in a row for the prestigious Undisputed WWE Universal Title. If the following hype video doesn't get you, well, hyped, you shouldn't call yourself a wrestling fan:
Let's take a look at the officially announced WrestleMania 40 matches – as well as rumored matches that fans are speculating about.
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes
How's this for a main event?
Despite the mayhem of the recent WrestleMania press event from Las Vegas, it looks like The American Nightmare will get one more chance at dethroning the seemingly insurmountable Roman Reigns in Philadelphia. Despite Seth Rollins and The Rock throwing monkey wrenches into WWE's plans, Cody will have one more opportunity to finish his story.
Reigns has enjoyed an unheard-of-in-the-modern-era 1,000+ day title reign while being the most unstoppable WWE Superstar in decades. Cody Rhodes seemingly has the unwavering support of the entire WWE Universe that arguably hasn't been seen since the glory days of Hulkamania. Expect this main event to overwhelmingly receive the most mainstream media attention in the weeks and months leading up to WrestleMania – and for good reason: the match will be historic and awe-inspiring.
The Rock & Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins
WrestleMania Night One will feature a never-before-seen match with no championships on the line, but nevertheless, it’s shaping up to be the most explosive match in WWE history!
The two warring factions will meet in a tag team clash with significant stakes: if Cody and Seth win, The Bloodline will be banned from ringside during the following night’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. However, if The Rock and Reigns win this tag team match, then the Night Two main event will be contested under Bloodline Rules – essentially sealing Cody’s fate before his title opportunity even happens!
This match will be historic – after all, it will serve as The Rock’s first official WWE match in eight years.
WWE Women's Championship: IYO SKY vs. Bayley
At SummerSlam 2022, Bayley returned with two allies in tow: Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. Collectively, three women were known as Damage CTRL and ran through the WWE women's division for over a year.
But 2022 might as well be decades ago.
In 2024, a lot has changed. Damage CTRL as we know it is no more, as Bayley parlayed her Royal Rumble victory – and leveraged the increasing discontent within Damage CTRL – into a WWE Women's Title match against reigning champion IYO SKY at WrestleMania 40.
As we've covered before, Bayley has quietly earned the distinction of being one of the most accomplished WWE Superstars ever – and the last thing she has to check off her bucket list is a genuine WrestleMania moment. She'll get that chance in Philadelphia. Although she's been one of the most villainous women in the locker room for a long time, we have a feeling she'll be riding a groundswell of fan support. Bayley will look to move past her Damage CTRL era and enter into a new, positive career arc – if IYO SKY allows it, of course.
World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre
After the dust has settled from Elimination Chamber 2024, Seth Rollins finally knows who he'll lock horns with in Philadelphia: Drew McInytre!
Sometimes things work out better than any of us could plan – McIntyre has been a thorn in the side of Seth Rollins throughout 2024, as he's taken it upon himself to fill the void CM Punk left due to injury. While McIntyre memorably won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 2020, the lack of fans in the stands remains a pain point for the Scottish Warrior. In Philadelphia, McIntyre intends to win one of the most prestigious titles in sports entertainment in front of tens of thousands of rabid members of the WWE Universe – all he has to do is defeat Seth "Freakin" Rollins.
Of course, that's easier said than done – ever since Rollins captured the inaugural World Heavyweight title, he's been on a tear, defeating every Superstar in his path. The Rollins/McInytre bout at WrestleMania will be one for the ages, only because we genuinely have no idea who will walk out of Philadelphia as champion.
Women's World Championship: Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch
Talk about a larger-than-life matchup! We never thought we'd see the day when Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch would go toe-toe-toe at WrestleMania, but that's precisely what will happen in Philadelphia. Becky sealed her fate with an impressive victory in the women's Elimination Chamber match, proving once again that The Man is still at the top of her game.
Ever since she backed up her smack talk with a timeless performance against Charlotte Flair at last year's WrestleMania, Rhea Ripley has arguably been the brightest star in the WWE locker room. Mami has had a vice-like grip on the Women's World Championship for nearly a year with no signs of slowing down – Becky Lynch will undoubtedly be Rhea's most formidable challenge yet. Just like last year, we're fully expecting an instant classic. It's rare for the WWE Universe to witness such a high-profile match that hasn't ever really happened before, but that's exactly what fans will get.
Something tells us the animosity between the two Superstars will grow at a torrid pace as spring comes around, leading to their WrestleMania title match being a particularly personal and chaotic affair. WrestleMania 40 can't come soon enough!
Intercontinental Championship: Gunther vs. Sami Zayn
Gunther’s wildly successful run as Intercontinental Champion shows no sign of slowing down – but he arguably faces his toughest test yet at WrestleMania against Sami Zayn. On the March 11 edition of Monday Night Raw, Zayn survived a Gauntlet Match en route to being crowned the number-one contender to Gunther’s championship.
Sami Zayn is no stranger to the Intercontinental title, being a former champion himself. Still, as the years go by, it really is starting to feel like nobody has the in-ring chops to dethrone Gunther anytime soon. However, a WrestleMania showdown between these two Superstars means one thing: a chance to put on one of the greatest matches the world has ever seen. Both men are more than up to the task.
We fully expect more matchups to be announced as the WWE Universe gets closer to witnessing the biggest WrestleMania in history!
It’s going to be a historic two nights in Philadelphia, that’s for sure.
What Other Matches Are Rumored to Take Place at WrestleMania 40?
In addition to those massive title matches, conventional wisdom says the WWE Universe will see Gunther defend his Intercontinental Title, Logan Paul defend his United States Championship, and The Judgment Day put their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles up for grabs at WrestleMania.
It will be a historic two nights in Philadelphia, that's for sure.
You can tune in to Peacock to watch WrestleMania on April 6 and 7. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
