Worlds Collided On Sunday – Here’s What To Expect In The Aftermath On NXT Tonight
A new era begins as NXT sifts through the fallout from Worlds Collide.
Following Saturday’s Clash at the Castle and capping off an absolutely packed weekend of WWE action, Worlds Collide delivered on everything that was promised: classic matches, gravity-defying moments, and new champions staking their claim as unified, undisputed champions of their respective divisions.
If you need a moment to catch your breath after this weekend, we don’t blame you — because we do too.
Congratulations of course are in order for Mandy Rose and Bron Breakker. Both stood victorious after their epic matches that unified their titles. After all the drama and after all the nonstop action, after critics perhaps doubted their in-ring ability when facing off against arguably more skilled competitors, the dust settled.
The UK Championships are officially no more, and in the end, Mandy Rose still holds the NXT Women’s Championship and Bron Breakker continues his reign as NXT Champion.
One word can be used to describe both of their title reigns: dominant.
Every single challenger has failed to take their titles away.
For Mandy Rose, it’s been an uphill battle proving her naysayers wrong – until she finally looked down, over 300 days later, and realized she no longer was climbing uphill. She was standing on top of her own mountain.
For Bron Breakker, from day one nobody doubted his in-ring ability — after all, Steiner blood runs through his veins, a pedigree that any WWE Superstar would kill to have — but his detractors always thought that maybe the 24-year-old phenom didn’t have the mental maturity to succeed at such a high level.
It goes without saying that Bron Breakker has exceeded everybody’s expectations — perhaps even his own family’s.
So where does that leave the champions? They’ve defeated all comers and there’s seemingly nothing left to accomplish in NXT… or so we assume. With a new era rising in NXT after Worlds Collide, the twists and turns in the saga of being a top champion could arise even more frequently than they have in the past.
With a new era comes new competition, new challenges, and new challengers.
WWE Superstars across both RAW and SmackDown have shown over the past few weeks that they are not afraid to get on a plane and show up in the Capitol Wrestling Center on Tuesdays. After all, for the better part of a year, Mandy Rose and Bron Breakker have shown that they are just as capable as the champions on the main roster.
Where the roads lead for Mandy and Bron is anybody’s guess, but we’re sure it’ll become clearer tonight.
Savvy fans know that the first show following such a huge event has a very unpredictable and chaotic nature to it – with so many moving parts, we’re surprised that NXT has announced any matches at all. But thankfully for the WWE Universe, they have – and they’re matchups that shine a spotlight on some of NXT’s brightest stars.
JD McDonagh will take on Wes Lee in singles action, as the Irish Ace moves on from his short-lived rivalry with Bron Breakker to try to get back on track and climb up the contender’s list. Wes Lee’s move set is dazzling, and we’re almost more interested in how creepy McDonagh will be tonight than seeing if Lee has the in-ring chops to take him down and score the victory!
And in what is somewhat surprising — but very intriguing — news, Axiom and Nathan Frazer will tangle in the first match of a best-of-three series.
Axiom, who recently made his in-ring debut, and Frazer are two of the best high-flyers on the roster, so the fact that we’re going to get a guaranteed three matches between these two competitors is just the cherry on top of a banana split of fast-paced NXT action. Sometimes a friendly competition between two young Superstars is the perfect recipe for great matches – and that’s exactly what we’re going to get.
With Worlds Collide in the rear view mirror, NXT UK officially on hiatus, and arguably the most talented roster top to bottom in NXT history all wanting to seize their moment, it’s safe to say that this new era of NXT is going to be one for the ages.
For those of you still wanting to catch your breath after this past weekend, we’ve got some bad news:
NXT isn’t going to let that happen.
