Who Does Annie End Up With In Covert Affairs? It's Not Who Fans Initially Predicted
Fans of "Covert Affairs" rooted for CIA field operative Annie Walker to find romance with different characters throughout the series.
"Covert Affairs" is a show filled with action — after all, the main character is a CIA trainee who unexpectedly finds herself promoted to field operative, going undercover and handling all kinds of dangerous missions. But as much as viewers loved to watch Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) transform into a seasoned agent, they also often watched for another reason: to see who Annie would end up with.
Over the course of the show's five seasons, there was certainly chemistry shown between Annie and her handler, Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham). Auggie and Annie instantly connected when they first met, and a deep friendship was born. The two hung out both on and off the clock, and their friendly banter had a certain sect of fans swooning. Auggie also seemed willing to take risks to ensure Annie was safe, even going against his orders to protect her. You can see why viewers thought they were falling in love!
Well, fans were sort of right. The Season 3 finale saw Auggie finally confessing his feelings to Annie and kissing her. But the relationship was blown up in Season 4, after their work for the CIA got in the way. Romance just wasn't in the cards for them.
Of course, another guy soon got in the way, too. In Season 5, Nic Bishop joined the show as Ryan McQuaid, who owns a private security firm. He and Annie instantly click — and the series even ends with Nic proposing marriage if they get out of a battle alive. (Spoiler alert: They do.)
While we don't know for sure how Annie would answer, as she never gave a firm response, the show's executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord confirmed she was definitely interested and elaborated on what her final look meant in the series finale.
"She’s considering that. She’s considering whether to stay in the agency. She’s considering what to do about her heart, if anything. So she’s got a lot to think about," they told TVLine.

Auggie had found love elsewhere in the series finale, too. He chooses to walk away from the CIA with his hacker girlfriend, Natasha.
Of course, that doesn't mean we wouldn't have seen Auggie and Annie give their romance another shot if the show had continued.
"For now, they have [moved past their romantic feelings]. But there’s always a kinship there. There’s always a closeness there. And they kind of define one another and themselves through this relationship in many ways. Right now, they’re definitely on different trajectories. But it would be wrong to say that they’ve transcended the power of that relationship," they told TVLine.
There is still some hope there, shippers!
