The Big D's Dean Talks About the Shocking Moment When the Whole Show Changed For Him
Dean got the shock of his life on the latest episode of The Big D when his ex returned to his life.
The latest episode of The Big D saw the house’s favorite party boy, Dean, get the shock of his life when his ex, Amber, walked in the door. In a recent interview with USA Insider, he opened up about what her presence meant for his ability to flirt in the household and how it impacted his experience overall.
Dean came into the house hot with his boisterous attitude and immediately hit it off with some of the women in the house, namely Jo. That high energy came to a grinding halt and gave way to emotion when the woman he divorced came into the villa in Episode 5 looking to get ahead of any connections he may have been making. Suddenly, the guy who was always trying to do shots was fighting back tears.

“My main goal going into it was the premise of the show, to see whether me and my ex can get on the same page. But I would say, individually, just walking in that house and being around others, I was just looking at it as an opportunity to showcase … My energy and love that I have just for being around people and just the positive, you know? Like a positive outlook on things really.”
He added: “It's how I am daily. Like, I don't let too many things bother me and it's like, why not have a good time? Especially walking through those doors and … We're in Costa Rica on a big-time TV show! Why not have fun around each other?”
However, that all changed the moment Amber walked in. Suddenly his fun vacation came with a person he had a deep emotional connection to looking to resolve issues and get him to acknowledge things about himself he maybe wasn’t ready to.
“I wanted to balance seeing what me and my ex had, but also giving the other girls a try as well,” he said of the balancing act he suddenly found himself in. “But it was like, once my ex came into the picture, it was like everybody wants to say, ‘OK, you're with that person. You're with that person. Yeah.’”

Still, he says he has no regrets about the way he balanced his time in the early days of Amber being in the house.
“I thought the show allowed me to have a good balance with just getting to know people as soon as I came into the house and not having to worry about the thought of having to deal with my ex right off the bat,” he said. “So it did allow me to kind of come in and be myself without the feelings of someone else and the way that I'm acting. I mean naturally.”
He concluded by noting that the show allowed him and Amber to realize they can be civil and not just “battle” all the time like they did in their marriage and subsequent divorce. However, will that improvement in their communication bring them closer together or make it more difficult for them to make connections with others on the show?
