Scare Tactics' Vampire Prankster Could Hear Her Friend's Screams "From 3 States Away"

Maybe there was a bit too much history at this estate sale in Scare Tactics Episode 3.

Each week, Scare Tactics host Flip introduces a collection of fresh frights to USA Network. In the rebooted series from Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, nominators trick friends and family into a terrifying, hilarious trap of cinematic proportions.

In the series' third episode, "Host of Horrors," one of the three pranks is what Flip calls a "true classic": a vampire story.

But what could be frightening about... an estate sale? (Beyond the dust, that is.)

At least that's where nominator Ashley Herd told her friend Megan they were going when she set her up to be a Scare Tactics nominee.

"Luckily, she knows I have unusual ideas, so it didn't raise suspicions," Ashley told USA Insider via an email interview. "When we pulled up to the driveway, she noticed there was no 'Estate Sale' sign out front. I told her it's because it's high-end and they didn't want the general public to come in and get too crowded. Luckily, the long, winding driveway and huge mansion made that believable!"

The prank sees Ashley and Megan roll up to an enormous mansion where they're told the owner — whose estate sale is a mishmash of creepy mummies and a particularly fragile urn — wants to give them a gift for being so generous with their time. They're presented with swanky robes and nondisclosure agreements that they have to sign before they can go any further. Megan is (understandably!) hesitant as the vibes grow weirder, but Ashley plays her part perfectly, encouraging her friend to stay through the finale.

As the prank was being set up right before their eyes, the tension growing, Ashley couldn't help but think, "How can I keep myself from breaking character?" She was waiting in anticipation for the shoe to drop.

"'When's the prank going to happen?'" she kept asking herself. "'And I hope the prank doesn't end with Megan hating me!' My heart was beating so fast!"

Eventually, Ashley and Megan got to "meet" their host, Quincy, and the results were next-level hilarious.

"I knew that Megan was going to walk into a room with vampires, but when she was running out of the house, another vampire jumped out. I had no idea that was happening, and I could have heard Megan's screams from three states away," Ashley said.

Luckily, Megan had a good sense of humor about the whole ordeal.

"This was one of the most fun things we've done in our 20 years of friendship!" Ashley said, noting that even though she knew what was happening the whole time, even she found herself "terrified" by the whole setup.

Ashley would do it all over again in a heartbeat, and even has another victim in mind: "My friend Eliza from tennis — because she wouldn't suspect a thing and would be hilarious."

To get the full effect of these spooky pranks each week, watch new episodes of Scare Tactics when they premiere every Friday night at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network. Episodes are also available to stream on Peacock.
