Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie Premiere Date, First-Look Images Revealed
Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie finally has a premiere date on Peacock and it's not too far away!
It’s been months since Tony Shalhoub confirmed he was reprising his role as Adrian Monk for a Peacock original movie titled Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie. Now fans are getting their first look at not only his but the whole cast’s return on a very special day to the actor.
To mark the Emmy-winning star's 70th birthday on October 9, Monk fans are being treated to their first look at the character’s return since the show aired its exciting series finale nearly 14 years ago in 2009 (not counting the cast’s brief reunion in 2020 to benefit charity during the COVID-19 pandemic). Monk and the whole gang will be back on Dec. 8, 2023 for one last case that’s deeply personal to him involving his beloved stepdaughter, Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding in Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie, which will stream exclusively on Peacock.
The images show not only Monk back (or still?) in his usual beige detective getup reuniting with some old friends including Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard), Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford) and Dr. Neven Bell (Hector Elizondo). Monk rarely solved a case without this team of friends by his side and his movie will be no exception. Also returning to the cast and featured in first-look images is Trudy Monk (Melora Hardin) although it’s unclear how since a majority of the show dealt with his quest to find her killer.

That’s not all. Monk fans can look forward to a few new characters played by Caitlin McGee, taking over the role of Molly, and James Purefoy, the latest antagonist to Monk and his friends. Both make their debut in the snapshots from the movie as well. In addition to new and old Monk talent behind the camera, series creator, writer and executive producer Andy Breckman, executive producer David Hoberman and director Randy Zisk got in on the first-look/birthday fun too.
“It’s been twelve years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk. The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world,” they said in a statement about the upcoming movie. “We’re so delighted to have made a movie version of Monk, and we are thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back. But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy. Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”
If that’s not enough to get fans of the hit USA Network original series excited for what’s to come in his first feature-length adventure, we don’t know what is. With just months to go until Mr. Monk and his friends return for another mystery, fans will just have to wait to see what more will be teased before the premiere.
Catch up on all of Monk on Peacock ahead of the premiere of Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie on December 8, 2023.
