What Meghan Markle's 'Suits' Costar Said About Prince Harry In New Documentary
The impact Meghan Markle's relationship had on filming "Suits" is also described in "Harry & Meghan."
Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle already had legions of fans thanks to her work on the USA Network series "Suits."
For seven seasons, she played Rachel Zane, a paralegal with dreams of becoming an attorney who captures the eye of the series' main character, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). Mike manages to get a top job at Rachel's law firm despite not having a law degree, a complication he hides from those around him, including Rachel.
The will-they-won't-they romance between the two contributed to the popularity of "Suits" — but Rachel would ultimately have to leave the show thanks to what was happening behind the scenes: Meghan Markle had fallen in love with Prince Harry.
Prince Harry and Markle are now telling their side of the story in "Harry & Meghan," a Netflix docuseries that dives into their whirlwind romance and eventual split from the Royal Family. Naturally, since "Suits" was such a major part of Markle's life when they first met, the show is heavily mentioned in the docuseries. A familiar face from "Suits" even pops up!
In Episode 1, actress Abigail Spencer, who played Dana Scott on "Suits," described her reaction to the news her close friend was dating a prince.

"It was 2016, Meghan and I met up in New York,' Spencer says in "Harry & Meghan." 'We really enjoyed going to have tea and champagne at Bergdorf Goodman. We'd be like, 'Let's meet at the tea room at Bergdorfs.' ... She's like, 'Um yeah, I think I met someone and I'm in love. It's Prince Harry.'
"I could just feel everything in her body vibrating," she continued. "We have a photo from that moment. I was screaming because I could tell it was different ... It was very clear from the moment she told me about him that they were in love and they were going to go to the ends of the earth to be together."
Spencer has actually been close friends with Markle for years — they met at an audition years before they starred together in "Suits," according to an interview Spencer did with ET Online. Spencer was also one of the many "Suits" stars who attended her wedding.
A "Suits" producer was also featured in the docuseries. Silver Tree discussed the way her relationship with Prince Harry impacted production, saying it "started feeling a little bit dangerous" for Markle on the set.
"The paparazzi started coming out to try to get eyes on her and there were people trying to buy call sheets from production assistants on our show so they could find out when she was shooting," she explained, adding that certain safety measures had to be introduced.
"And that was really challenging logistically because she was on a TV show and her nature is to never make things more difficult for anyone," she said.
