'Life In The Fast Lane' Stars Mariel And Paul Swan Talk Dealing With NASCAR Losses
Paul Swan doesn't always do his best on the NASCAR race track. His wife, Mariel, explains how they shake off a bad day.
“Life In The Fast Lane” sees best friends Paul Swan and Austin Dillon get extremely competitive as team members against other NASCAR racers. However, when one lives their life in constant competition, they need to deal with the occasional disappointment of losing.
On the show, already both Paul and Austin have had to shake off a worse-than-expected performance. They did it with the help of their significant others; in Paul’s case, that’s his longtime wife, Mariel Swan.
Speaking to USA Insider, she revealed that the family often leans on their faith when it comes to dusting themselves off after disappointment.
“We're big on faith in our household, so we always pray if we have an issue or problem or there's something that's going on,” she explained. “I'm a big believer too there's going to be times where things don't go the way we think that they should go and so, you’ve kind of got to acknowledge that, you see what you could do better the next time and then focus about the good, you know?
“Focus on the good, the good it'll get better. You focus on the worst, and the worst will get worse, you know?” she added.
Paul agrees with Mariel’s method. However, he admitted the easiest way for him to get over a loss in NASCAR is to get back on the track as quickly as possible, saying that it will eat away at him until he gets to prove himself again.
“Yeah, it’s, tough to get out of the head right away, getting on the plane, coming home. It just eats at you if you had a bad day or something, you know? Pit stop didn't go how you wanted it or just little things that didn't go the way you would've liked them to go, you know you could've done better,” he said. “It just, it definitely eats at you at night through the week … Until you get to the race track the next week and you redeem yourself.”
“But as Mariel said, our faith helps. We pray about it, you know? Just remember that there are going to be better days and things aren't always going to be perfect. You’ve just got to battle through those trials and tribulations.” Paul concluded.
See Paul get competitive and even deal with loss every Thursday at 9:30/8:30c on "Austin Dillon's Life In The Fast Lane" on USA Network. You can watch more Nascar coverage on Peacock.
