Austin Dillon's Wife Whitney Explains The Secret To Cheering Him Up After A Bad Race
The second episode of "Life In The Fast Lane" saw the gang cheer up Austin Dillon after Daytona didn't go his way.
In the second episode of “Austin Dillon’s Life In The Fast Lane,” the gang deals with the fallout from Austin and Paul not performing as well as they’d hoped at Daytona. As a result, the viewers get to see firsthand how the people closest to the NASCAR driver handle cheering him up after a rough race.
Thanks to a miscommunication on the track, Austin's car had to make an extra pit stop for fuel which cost the team some precious placement at the race. Immediately, Paul, Mariel, and Whitney close ranks to brainstorm ways to keep Austin’s mind off of the loss for the remainder of their time in Daytona. The moment shows just how close the group is as well as how important it is to keep Austin in the right frame of mind to dust off after a loss.
Speaking to USA Insider, Whitney explained what she sees as the secret to keeping her husband in the right headspace to compete. It turns out the key is simply to remind him of the other important priorities he has in life outside of racing.
“You know, that's a tricky one,” she said. “Honestly, [it's about] just really having a good time, and just bringing it back to what really matters. Like, yes, racing is exciting, and it's awesome, and it's just such a blessing that we get to do that. But it takes it back to what really matters, and that's family and [our son] Ace, and being together, and just experiencing things together. So, it's really just remembering the blessing attached to it all.”
Austin agreed but also noted that he tries to build opportunities for more competition into his life so that he’s always driven by the next chance for a win.
“She knows I love competition. So doing the pickleball, any type of competition, to go get the competitive juices flowing [helps]. That's the other thing that gets my mind off of it," he explained, adding, “I'm in basketball leagues, golf leagues, all kinds of different stuff. So, any type of competitive nature, I can get over something pretty quick.”
Fortunately for Austin, there’s always another NASCAR race right around the corner. Now, fans will get to see him prepare and execute on almost all of them thanks to “Life In The Fast Lane” on USA Network.
Austin Dillon’s Life In The Fast Lane” airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network.
