'We're Not Hiding Anything': Paul Swan Explains The Biggest NASCAR Misconceptions & More
Paul Swan is excited for people to see what really goes into a professional NASCAR pit crew career on "Austin Dillon's Life in the Fast Lane."
Paul Swan is one of the four cast members on “Austin Dillon’s Life in the Fast Lane,” wherein he offers viewers an up-close look inside his work on NASCAR’s Pit Row as well as his life at home with his wife, Mariel Swan, while they were expecting their first child together.
In addition to showcasing the friendship Paul and Mariel have with Austin and Whitney Dillon, the show goes in-depth into the guys’ lives in professional racing. Each episode shows moments in training with the Richard Childress Racing team that NASCAR fans don’t typically get to see when they tune in. Speaking to USA Insider, that was something Paul said got him excited to participate in a reality show like this.
“I think it’s awesome because NASCAR is such a unique sport where people just see the cars going around the track and they just see the drivers and crew chief and all that stuff,” Paul says. “There’s so much more to the sport on so many different fronts. From a business aspect, bringing in a lot of cool people, the engineering part of it and all that stuff.”
Particularly, Swan made sure to note the athletic aspect of NASCAR. He says people like him on the pit crews are as much athletes as pro football players, but their best physical moments are harder to spot on TV.
“I’m really excited for people to see what goes into a weekly, daily basis of each person in this sport and really, myself being a pit crew member, getting the pit crew guys into the spotlight. Because up and down Pit Row, there are tremendous athletes, guys who played collegiately, professionally and now are doing an amazing job on Pit Row,” he says. “It’s really cool to see all that come to life and to see what the drivers do in their weekly training and all that stuff. Those guys are athletes too and it’s really amazing and awesome that we got a lot of that and it’s a big part of the show.”
As for the other aspect of the show that depicts him at home as a family man and best friend, Swan is equally excited for people to see their authentic relationships play out.
“It’s just our love. The love we have for each other and what a real, true friendship between four people is all about,” he says. “There’s nothing fake about what we are, how we are, who we are. Each one of us in this show portrays who we are in real life. We’re not hiding anything, we’re not trying to cater to anybody. It’s us being us and I think people can really relate to us and really see what love and true friendship is all about.”
"Austin Dillon’s Life in the Fast Lane” airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network.
