Could The Cast Of 'Monk' Return For A Reunion?
The cast of "Monk" may return again some day, even though the series ended in 2009.
It’s been 13 years since “Monk” aired its final episode, finally solving the mystery that plagued the high-strung titular character since Episode 1. Although the show drew to an incredibly satisfying conclusion, many fans of Adrian Monk are hoping he’ll get the gang back together for another adventure.
Fortunately for them, it was announced in March of 2023 that "Monk" will return for a reunion movie headed straight for Peacock titled "Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie." Not only will the titular Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) be back as everyone's favorite detective with severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but he'll be joined by familiar faces like Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) and Lieutenant Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford).
While the upcoming "Monk" reunion movie is exciting, fans who have been paying close attention knew it was never outside. the realm of possibility.
Speaking to PopCulture in 2022, Shalhoub revealed that “Monk” may be getting the same treatment as “Psych,” which parlayed the success of its finale into a TV movie — three, in fact.

“There is a good chance actually," Shalhoub said when asked about bringing the show back. "We're in discussion now about a movie, a TV movie, of Monk returning, kind of folding in the pandemic story."
The star noted that, although discussions were happening, he had not yet read a script. That said, the show’s titular star seemed on board to reprise his role to solve another great mystery. While everyone on the cast went on to more after "Monk" concluded, the Emmy-winning star was far and away the biggest piece of the reunion puzzle and he made it clear he was ready to don his signature beige blazer once again. So, it was only a matter of time.
In addition, the whole case was all on board to reprise their roles in 2020 when “Monk” held a mini-reunion via video chat as part of Peacock’s At-Home Variety Show. The stars, like many, got together to help benefit various charitable organizations helping people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The premise of that fun, possibly non-canonical reunion was that Adrian was struggling with quarantine despite being more well-prepared than the average person. He spoke with his friends remotely but even that was a bit too much of a germ risk for him. Shalhoub recently teased that the plot of the "Monk" movie will indeed factor the COVID-19 pandemic heavily in Monk's current state of mind. While it was fun to see the cast interact together for the first time since the 2009 finale, it was hardly a new “Monk” adventure.
As they wait to see the promised "Monk" reunion movie come to fruition, fans can catch up on the entire series by streaming it on Peacock right now.
