Where You Can Watch Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie And What To Expect From It
Here's how you can watch the Monk movie when it comes out.
It's not exactly a secret that Monk is one of the most beloved USA Network original series ever. Luckily for fans, it's looking to be the show that keeps on giving in 2023 as we prepare ourselves for the Peacock original movie, Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie.
How Can Fans Watch Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie?
As a Peacock original, there's only one place to take in the latest installment of the decades-long saga of Adrian Monk — On Peacock!
The film premieres on December 8 and will be available immediately to stream. If you're not subscribed to Peacock, you'll be on the outside looking in as Adrian Monk and his friends grace our screens for the first time since 2009 (not counting their brief reunion during the COVID-19 pandemic).
What is Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie?
Although fans of Monk were treated to a definitive ending in the 2009 series finale that saw Monk finally find answers to the mystery that plagued him for the show's entire run, the murder of his wife, Trudy, the series ended on a lighter note and seemed to suggest Monk was on the road to being less burdened by the devastating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder traits that served as the hallmark of his character.
As it turns out, in a post-pandemic world, Monk gets thrown another curveball that essentially puts him back to square one. In the years that followed the series finale, Monk has developed a relationship with Molly, his ex-wife's daughter from an affair. However, the murder of Molly's fiancé sets the stage for the main storyline of Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie.

It's a classic Monk formula taking place in the present-day – what more could fans of the show ask for? We never thought we'd see the brilliant and talented Tony Shalhoub step into the Adrian Monk role again, and our expectations are high. Monk perfected the "mystery-of-the-week" TV series formula, and we are looking forward to a full-length movie following one of the most criminally underrated TV characters in modern history!
What Can Fans Expect From Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie?
In addition to the trademark humor and writing that put Monk on the map during its original 2002-2009 run (which saw the series earn eight Emmy Awards), fans can expect a tight-knit story that takes place over a decade after the events of the series finale. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Andy Breckman opened up about revisiting the Monk universe nearly 15 years after the show officially ended on USA Network – and gave fans plenty of clues about what to expect from the Peacock film.
"When people ask me what the original series was about, I always say it was about loss," revealed Breckman. "It was Monk dealing with the loss of his beloved wife, Trudy. And that, of course, we solved in the series finale. But the movie presents Monk with an equally emotional challenge that he has to step up and address. We found a way to raise the stakes yet again for this poor guy."
Fans of the series can expect new characters to be introduced this time around, including James Purefoy, an eccentric billionaire antagonist who will undoubtedly draw comparisons to some of the most powerful people in society today. According to Breckman, the decision to include a character like Purefoy was easy.
"The best stories are ones where Monk is going up against someone very, very powerful, very strong, and very dismissive of him – someone that underestimates Monk from the beginning," Breckman explained. "In this world, there's no one more powerful than these Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos type of characters. In this case, the James Purefoy character is building a rocket. He's sending himself into space."
In less than two months, fans worldwide have the opportunity to revisit one of the most iconic television characters in history – only on Peacock. Breckman admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he never thought the day would come.
"I was always hoping for a chance to revisit him the way you would want to revisit an old friend," Breckman confessed.
On December 8, Monk returns to our screens for the most extensive detective work of his life – again.
Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie streams on December 8 only on Peacock. Until then, catch up on the complete series of Monk, also exclusively on Peacock.
