'GET YOUR KID': 5-Year-Old Dresses As Chucky, Terrifies Alabama Town Residents
A 5-year-old boy dressed up as everyone's favorite killer doll and it didn't take long for the town to notice.
Everyone’s favorite killer doll is all fun and games when he’s on your TV screen, but what if you were driving down the road and saw Chucky just walking down the street?
That’s what happened to the residents of a town in Alabama when they spotted a 5-year-old boy casually patrolling the street in his horrifying Chucky costume just for a laugh. One resident named Kendra Walden posted images of the child in his getup on Facebook and the post quickly went viral with people across the Internet asking themselves, “What would I do?”
“Dear Parents of the little boy in the chucky costume in Pinson,” Walden wrote jokingly. “GET YOUR KID.… I almost had a heart attack.”
Fortunately for residents of the town, the person in the images is a boy named Jackson who was just having some fun playing dress-up in an old Halloween costume. Indeed, the photos show the youngster in Chucky’s overalls, striped shirt, and sporting a mask with his massive mane of red hair (not to mention his creepy scowl). Because the boy is only 5, he’s the perfect height to accurately (and creepily) cosplay as the infamous Good Guy doll possessed by fictional serial killer Charles Lee Ray.
To quell fears around town after the post went viral, Jackson’s mother, Britnee Reed, spoke with local outlet WDHN and explained that he went as Chucky last Halloween and just decided to keep the costume around.
“That’s just kind of how his personality is,” she explained. “He dresses up in different costumes throughout the week. He loves to make people laugh.”
She noted she was at work when a co-worker showed her the post and said it sounded like something Jackson would do. Reed said she did a double take of the photos before realizing it was indeed her son. She said that since the post has gone viral, there have been a handful of negative comments, but she and Jackson are more focused on the majority of people who recognize this for the fun, lighthearted viral moment it is.
It makes sense that people were creeped out by young Jackson's Chucky and assumed he was there to wreak havoc on their town. Not only is that basically the plot of Season 1 of the killer doll’s self-titled show on USA Network and SYFY, but the series actually uses a young boy named Jacob as a body double for Chucky when master puppeteers can’t get the job done.
Series co-star Jennifer Tilly recently shared an adorable behind-the-scenes video of young Jacob in his makeup chair getting his Chucky look put on ahead of filming a scene for “Chucky” Season 2. The series will feature a slew of returning cast members such as Tilly, Devon Sawa, Fiona Dourif, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Alex Vincent, Kyle, and Barbara Alyn Woods.
"Chucky" Season 2 premieres on USA Network and SYFY on Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. ET.
