From 'The Voice' To A New Show, Blake Shelton And Carson Daly's Bromance, Explained
Thanks to "Barmageddon," Blake Shelton and Carson Daly are taking their friendship to the next level.
Blake Shelton and Carson Daly are about to take their friendship to the next level with the release of their new show, “Barmageddon.”
The duo will appear on the show, which features teams of competitors vying to be the very best bar athletes possible by playing the kind of games you’d find at any bar or outdoor gathering across America. Shelton’s Ole Red restaurant in Nashville is where the whole show will take place.
However, after years on “The Voice” and a public bromance that seems to span the ages, many may be wondering how the country music star and “Today” host became as thick as thieves and agreed to launch yet another show together.
It turns out that it all goes back to 2011. Thanks to his time on MTV, Daly had been in the orbit of the music industry for years and was thus tapped to host a new singing competition for NBC, "The Voice.." Other music staples such as Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Christina Aguilera were chosen as coaches to pick a team of amateur singers based solely on hearing their voices. The fourth person tapped to round out the judges' panel was none other than country crooner Blake Shelton.
Over the years, the coaches in the other three chairs came and went with names like Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, and Gwen Stefani (more on her later) picking up the slack. However, the two celebrity names who continue to remain constants on “The Voice” are Shelton and Daly, even as it enters its 22nd season.
Anyone who has works in such close proximity to someone else for more than a decade is bound to develop some kind of friendship with them. However, in 2021 Shelton and Daly proved that their bromance goes far beyond that of a simple workplace friendship. In 2015, Shelton hit it off with fellow “The Voice” coach Stefani. They started dating and, by 2021, it was time to make it official. Shelton not only invited his work buddy to the big (super secret) ceremony but he also honored him by asking him to be the officiant.
“It was incredible to be part of such an important moment in their lives,” Carson said on “Today” at the time. “The best way to describe it is it was perfectly them — the whole weekend and the marriage itself. It was as elegant and refined and cool as Gwen is, and it was as country and down-home and fun as Blake is.”
Shelton even shared with PEOPLE the day ended up being extra special thanks in large part to the decision to have Daly officiate. Per his duties, the former MTV host asked both Shelton and Stefani to write their own vows. The pitch lit a fire within the country singer and he decided to make his vows a song, which was eventually released under the title “We Can Reach the Stars.”
While the ballad is a love letter to his now-wife, it’s impossible to ignore the part that Daly played in its creation. In short, the duo is a major part of each other’s lives and, between “The Voice” and “Barmageddon,” that shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
